Week commencing - Monday 25th November 2019

Another busy week! We are in full swing of Nativity rehearsals as well as our Maths and English learning. In Maths this week we have been learning how to double numbers. The method we learnt required us to use a mirror! We practiced writing number sentences to show what we had found out. We discussed the relationship between doubling and multiplying by 2!

This morning we welcomes our families for our annual Christmas craft morning. Thank you so so much to everybody that attended. It was fabulous to see such a wonderful turnout. We enjoyed making pine cone Christmas trees, gingerbread biscuits and paper chains!

Week commencing - Monday 18th November 2019

Today we started looking at a different genre of text, diary entries. We shared a diary entry written by Samuel Pepys. The children chose to be a character that would've been around during the fire. These included: neighbours, Samuel Pepys, the maid, pigeons etc. Through drama we acted out the diary entry. Next week Year 1 will be planning and writing their own diary entries as if they are Samuel Pepys.

In Maths we have moved our learning on by answering word problems as well as number sentences! Word problems access the children's ability to problem solve and reason! We illustrated the word problems to show our workings, we also used numicon to check our answers!

Have a lovely weekend, see you on Monday.

Week commencing - Monday 11th November 2019

In Maths this week we have been learning to multiply by 2. We learnt that multiply can also mean times or 'lots of'. I gave the children a multiplication question, 5 x 2. I asked 5 lots of children to get into pairs. The children checked that there was just two of them in their pair! I then asked another child how many lots of 2 there were. After we established that there were 5 lots of 2 children standing up we knew we could calculate the total. We learnt that we calculate the total by counting how many people were standing up altogether. The children then worked in pairs to answer some multiplication questions using Numicon!

In English we have been recalling and writing the story, Vlad. Here are some stories we would like to share!
