We had a wonderful time at Banham Zoo. We saw a variety of animals from all 7 of the continents. After lunch we went into a guided session where we had the opportunity to hold different animals from Australia. Next we went on the train. The train gave us a tour of the zoo! After that we went and looked at the giraffe's and sea lions. Then it was time to get back onto the coach! This week we have been writing a re-count of the zoo. The children have done a fantastic job and used lots of time words in their writing.
In Maths we looked at using lego bricks to represent a number. The children had to apply their problem solving skills when trying to create a specific number. We then focused our maths learning around multiples of 10, firstly counting from 10 and then extending our learning from counting on from any given number.
During snack time the children made notes of all the animals we saw at the zoo. This helped us to write our recounts.
In topic this week we had the opportunity to taste some french foods: brie, baguette, quiche and pain au chocolate! We applied our knowledge of our senses to this activity. On Wednesday we undertook a research based lesson all about Christopher Columbus. The children used a variety of resources to find out information about him. The work on Christopher Columbus is transitioning us into our worth on North and South America.
